Our Community

Empowering Africa Through Compassion and Action

Kushamiri is a Swahili word meaning “to flourish, thrive, and increase.” At Kushamiri Africa Foundation, we believe that every child in Africa deserves the opportunity to flourish.
We are a grassroots nonprofit organization committed to restoring hope, dignity, and economic self-sufficiency for widows, orphans, and vulnerable communities across Africa. Our mission is to empower children and families affected by extreme poverty, conflict, and neglect through sustainable, community-driven solutions.

What We Do

Education & Sponsorship

Education & Sponsorship

We support children to stay in school by covering school fees, uniforms, and essential supplies—especially for girls who are at risk of early marriage or dropping out.

Basic Needs & Healthcare

Farm Projects

Growing Food, Growing Hope

At Kushamiri Africa Foundation, we believe in long-term solutions to hunger and poverty. One of our most ambitious initiatives is our upcoming 500-hectare farm project—a bold step toward empowering communities, creating local jobs, and ensuring food security in Uganda and across East Africa.

This farm will serve as a dual-purpose hub:

Training & Equipping Young Farmers

Teaching sustainable agriculture, business skills, and self-reliance.

Creating Employment

Providing stable jobs to many in our communities.

We will cultivate both food crops and cash crops, including: Maize, Ginger, Turmeric, Peanuts, Cabbage, Tomatoes, Peppers, Onions

The farm will also include goat rearing, helping improve nutrition and local economies.

Here’s the powerful part:

50% of the harvest will go directly to feed the hungry—orphans, widows, and families affected by war and poverty.

The remaining 50% will be sold to support our ministry, allowing us to move toward financial self-sustainability and reduce long-term dependency on external donations.

This project is big—but not impossible.

How You Can Help

In Kushamiri Africa Foundation, we’ve taken the first steps in planning and preparation, and we are praying for a strong first harvest. But there’s more work ahead. To make this vision a reality, we need help with:

(1)

Building a barn for crop storage and protection

(2)

Expanding our irrigation systems to ensure year-round farming

(3)

Improving security infrastructure on the farm

Every gift—large or small—brings us one step closer to beating hunger and ending dependency. Perhaps your church, small group, or business can partner with us in this mission.

Together, we can grow food—and grow futures.

Your support is more than just a charitable contribution; it is an eternal investment in the future of Africa. By equipping the next generation of compassionate, visionary leaders and empowering vulnerable communities, you are helping to address some of the continent’s most pressing challenges.

MEET OUR FOUNDER

Mengisen Massawe, also known as Menny Terry, is the founder of Kushamiri Africa Foundation. He earned his Master of Divinity, Magna Cum Laude, from International Theological Seminary in the United States. He is married and a father of one.
Moved by the suffering caused by war and poverty in Eastern DRC and Northern Uganda, and with strong ties to the region, Mengisen saw the urgent need for long-term, community-based solutions beyond emergency aid. His deep passion for Africa and belief in its people’s potential continues to drive his work toward a brighter, more just future for all.
