Kushamiri is a Swahili word meaning “to flourish, thrive, and increase.” At Kushamiri Africa Foundation, we believe that every child in Africa deserves the opportunity to flourish.
We are a grassroots nonprofit organization committed to restoring hope, dignity, and economic self-sufficiency for widows, orphans, and vulnerable communities across Africa. Our mission is to empower children and families affected by extreme poverty, conflict, and neglect through sustainable, community-driven solutions.

MEET OUR FOUNDER

Mengisen Massawe, also known as Menny Terry, is the founder of Kushamiri Africa Foundation. He earned his Master of Divinity, Magna Cum Laude, from International Theological Seminary in the United States. He is married and a father of one.
Moved by the suffering caused by war and poverty in Eastern DRC and Northern Uganda, and with strong ties to the region, Mengisen saw the urgent need for long-term, community-based solutions beyond emergency aid. From his dorm in West Covina, California, he launched the foundation with a mission to empower widows, orphans, and vulnerable families to rebuild their lives with dignity.
His deep passion for Africa and belief in its people’s potential continues to drive his work toward a brighter, more just future for all.

Background

Our Story

In early 2022, Pastor Menny Terry—born and raised in Tanzania, one of the most peaceful countries in Africa—felt a deeper call to missions. As a young missionary, he began traveling across Africa, especially to regions devastated by war and conflict. What he witnessed was heartbreaking: widespread poverty, broken communities, and children struggling to survive amidst the ruins of violence.

Most children were dropping out of school. Girls were being forced into marriage at a young age. Pastor Terry met hundreds of children who had been raped by militias and warlords. The devastation, cruelty, and injustice he witnessed pushed him to go beyond delivering a spiritual message.

While sharing the Gospel, Pastor Terry realized that many people were not only spiritually hungry—they were also in desperate need of food, education, shelter, and hope. He understood that true transformation would require both the message of Christ and tangible, ongoing support grounded in love and trust.
